Lilian Donahue

Lilian lives in Prince Albert.  She takes a camera when she explores trails or waterways in Little Red River Park, Waskesiu, Anglin Lake and farther afield.

She took a photography class from Geoff Payton of the Northern Image Photography Club.  From there she moved her camera settings off Auto and set out to capture images of birds, animals, scenery and skies.

Learning is a process of instruction, trial and error, research and luck.

Tips picked up from other photographers are immensely useful and people have been generous with their help.  Saskatchewan artists are a varied and supportive community and as a result we all flourish.

One of her passions is birds.  For every good bird photo, there is a legion of blurred butts of birds that sense when the shutter is just about to be depressed.  She suspects this is a frustration shared by many wildlife photographers.

Wildflowers are of recent interest.  As land continues to be developed for industry, agriculture and housing, original prairie and plant species are diminishing.  Undisturbed land is rare.

Lilian is also inspired by nature in her paintings.

To focus so closely on detail when rendering an animal is an absorbing task and the result is never entirely accurate, but if the gist comes through and the mood and the feel are expressive, she is happy with the work.

Cranes attempted to establish a moody fall scene during migration time.

Sapsucker focused on texture and skimped on the background.
